She woke as she gripped the tattered cloth that was used as a make shift blanket, using her feet to try and position it against the fresh morning air and the chill it held on her tiny bubbled toes. She reached out with one arm, flailing around briefly;searching. Her fingers tightened around a clump of bamboo grass. Her eyes still closed, slightly disturbed by the thin strand of light that had so peacfully peeked in through the jungle's canopy and found her brow. Moaning a little she sat up with a sudden realization that something was missing. She reached up and rubbed her eyes with the heels of her hands then brushed her wild long black hair back from her eyes. She peered around her in the glade. A small bird merrily sang his arrival as the monkeys chased each other playing tag in the lofts.
Where had he gone? She was cold and shivering, she wrapped the blanket around her bare shoulders and pulled her knees close to her chest continuing to scan the glade for signs of her missing entity. She looked down around her and saw the familiar strands of orange and black hair that had become a huge part of her life; more than she had ever imagined. She took a deep breath slightly rocking back with her knees still clenched to her chest. She could even make out his familiar scent, a musk, a bitter smell. She had been so close to him for so long that with this familar smell came comfort and a sense of security. She peered closer at the ground around her, her eyes really just focusing she squints. She takes careful observation as she craks a smirk of happiness. She saw where he had lain, she saw how the dirt was slightly stirred and pushed around from where he had to position himself to curl around her, protecting her from the cold and the other things that lurked in the darkness of the jungle's night. She scooted forward and saw a familiar pattern, paw prints. She reached out and placed her thin gentle hand in his print. It dwarfed the size of her hand, she gathered a handful of the dirt and thought to herself about where he might be off to? If he is safe? If he is coming back? She let the dirt slowly trickle from her grasp back to the ground. Then she dusted the dirt on her hands on the blanket. She gathered herself and confidenty walked over to a hollow between to roots of a large tree. She curled up and wrapped the tattered blanket back around her. In her mind she knew without a doubt he would never have left in the first place if she was in danger. Since he was gone, then she knew that everything near her was at peace and harmony was with her. The birds whistled and the sounds of the monkeys slowly faded as her lids became heavy. She lost herself once again, into her dreams she slipped.
